Fashion Week Eats: Collagen soup anyone?
Posted 09/11/2011 by Lara
When I hear the word collagen a picture comes to mind of overly puffed lips and The Real Housewives of New Jersey. This is not the case for chef Takashi Inoue of Takashi and beauty expert Hinako Israel. Inspired by the fact that “we are what we eat” these two have teamed up to create a “beauty from within” menu for fashion week that works to nourish the skin and boost the immune system by eating items that include collagen.
Delicacies include flash boiled achilles and ox foot. This menu is not for the faint of heart, but might be for those working toward a healthy heart, beautiful skin, and a strong body.

Renowned Beaute Oblige Comes to NYC
Posted 08/06/2011 by Lara
Madame Camille Obadia needs very little introduction to the Parisian market, known for her anti-aging treatments, her clinic, Beaute Oblige has attracted Europeans and clients abroad for over a decade. An expert in her field, she’s also been a go-to for every major European publication for skincare and anti-aging commentary.
With a strong push from her American clientele to open a salon in the US and the demand for a non-surgical approach to dramatically improve your looks and turn back the clock she recently opened a Beaute Oblige location on Madison Avenue. I visited the clinic and sat down with Madame Camille to learn more about her breakthrough equipment. Bringing the latest generation of technology, she has pioneered TriPollar radio frequency and utilizes an advanced method of electrotherapy to stimulate collagen production and tighten muscles for surgical-like results. Offering a variety of face and body services, was anxious to try this super-power machine!
Now I’m used to going to spas and being told I have some sun damage but overall being complimented on how great it is –and rightfully so, I take good care of it! Madame Camille took one look at my face and pointed to all the areas I’m losing collagen –my forehead, the left side of face (which was less plump then my right) and that I need to focus on my neck. Showing me with a mirror, she was absolutely right! We then Continue Reading…

Angelina Jolie has a request…
Posted 06/22/2011 by Lara
I’m a very proud sister (although I’m not always the best at expressing it). While I spend my days perusing NYC absorbed in moisturizers and designer clothing, my sister resides in Geneva working for the United Nations (UNHCR division) to help protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide.
Monday was World Refugee Day and to help raise awareness, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie put out a video asking us to do 1 thing, “visit unhcr.org and learn how you can make a difference.”
So that’s exactly what I’m doing (and my part to spread the word). You can also follow the UNHCR on twitter and facebook

Kate Middleton Takes Down the Reiss Website
Posted 05/25/2011 by Lara
Michelle Obama may have made Jason Wu a household name when she wore his gown to the inaugural ball, but Kate Middleton indirectly took down the Reiss website when she wore a $340 Reiss “Shola” dress in camel earlier today. The occasion? Her and Prince William we’re meeting with the Obama’s in England. Speaking of which, I’m not sure what’s going on with the First Lady’s outfit. I’ll have to investigate the front of it before passing judgment.

Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr Dropped from Gossip Girl
Posted 05/11/2011 by Lara
It’s official, as Season 4 of Gossip Girl comes to close on Monday, so do the roles of Vanessa (Jessica Szohr) and Jenny (Taylor Momsen), who will not be returning in Season 5. Momsen, who has hardly been on this season seems pretty over the show since starting her band, The Pretty Reckless. And as for Jessica Szorh, her character has just become lame. It seems like the writers set her up to fail with all this tattletail woe-is-me Eeyore attitude. At least with Blair at her worst, you still loved to hate her but with Vanessa she’s just become somewhat pathetic. If this was Survivor, I’d probably vote them off the island –well that and Charlie. She just started and I’m already ready to see her go too. Although no matter how bad the plot line can get or unrealistic it gets, the clothes just keep me coming back for more!

Yours Truly Featured on the Today Show: Women in the Workplace
Posted 04/12/2011 by Lara
This morning I was on a segment for the Today Show (I was literally asked to do it last night), that circled around the challenges of working for women vs. men and my choice to get out of a full-time role and become a consultant (and start prettyconnected.com). The segment was derived from a recent study that women are not nurturing towards other women in the workforce and “men exceeded women in receiving job-related support from female supervisors”. Also that more than twice as many people would rather work for a man over a women.
Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy
Fostering a career in the beauty/fashion industry has made me no stranger to female bosses. And it is disappointing to see segments of this nature and hear stories of nightmare women bosses and toxic working environments; what’s worse is the reality of the situation. Early in my career, Continue Reading…

Essie and TOMS Shoes Partner: Will You Go A Day Without Shoes?
Posted 04/04/2011 by Lara
Nail polish powerhouse, Essie has teamed up with TOMS Shoes in support of the shoe brand’s global campaign, One Day Without Shoes (April 5th), which helps raise awareness of the millions of children at risk for disease and infection as they grow up without shoes. As most of you TOMS Shoes as the do-gooder shoe company where for every pair purchased, a new pair is donated to a child in need of shoes.
How does going a day without shoes make a difference?
Through change! And it gives us just a very, very, very, microscopic taste of what children in developing countries go through barefoot for miles to go to school, get clean water and medical help.
Essie created a special limited edition nail color, in the signature Continue Reading…

CoupTessa Fools Day
Posted 04/02/2011 by Lara
Happy April friends! Yesterday, I woke to an email from a friend with the subject line “Jimmy Choos”? And inside was a link to daily deal site, CoupTessa for $5 for the designer shoes from Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik & more (Value $1200, Save $1195). A deal too good to be true? Yes, it was a big whopping April Fools joke, and I for once didn’t fall for it—I emailed my friend back saying it was a prank. Although a part of me was going to feel really stupid if I was wrong. What gave it away for me was the ‘unlimited coupons per customer’ part. I think had they said 1/per customer it would have been more realistic and hilarious since everyone would be calling all their friends, family and going nuts to get even more pairs.
That evening I received a press release about the occurrence and I was right! Apparently their phones were ringing off the hook all morning and everyone had a good laugh out of it, especially the subscribers themselves. Definitely my kind of prank –funny but not harmful or embarrassing. I have to give it to CoupTessa, that was a good one and considering how much the deal circulated and a really brilliant marketing campaign.
