Lindsay Lohan Swears by her Nails (in Court)

7Jul10

In big news this morning, Lindsay Lohan showed up to court Tuesday afternoon wearing all black and what seemed like a regular multicolored manicure.  After closer inspection celebrity blog WWTDD noticed she had adorned the words ‘F_ CK U’ (I’ll let you fill in the blank) onto one of her nails.  So while her mouth was saying, “I don’t want you to think I don’t respect you and your terms” to the court, her middle finger was expressing something completely different.

I bet the judge feels incredibly vindicated for giving Lohan a 90-day jail sentence (three times what the prosecutors were seeking).  Talk about a beauty statement!

Estee Lauder Buys Smashbox

18May10

Amidst watching a presentation by Eve Pearl yesterday at The Makeup Show, I glanced at my iPhone to see an email from WWD with the headline “Estee Lauder to Buy Smashbox Cosmetics”. I almost fell out of my chair.  The makeup company was recently rumored to be on the market with many potential buyers, so while I was caught off guard, the news was not a complete shock.  In fact, I figured the buyer would either be the King or Queen of Prestige Beauty –L’Oreal or Estee Lauder. Although considering L’Oreal purchased nail polish brand Essie last month, it seemed about right this bid would go to Lauder.

While the cost has not been disclosed, it has been estimated by sources Smashbox was sold for between $200-$300 Million. Phew!

SPF Tips From Women’s Health Magazine

7May10

I’m not generally one to repost articles, however I received some really great and insightful SPF tips from Women’s Health Magazine in my inbox and thought I would share them with you.

Please note: I haven’t tried any of the products listed below, so I can’t speak for them, however I am intrigued.

1. Protect from the Inside Out

Sun damage causes free radicals, which all edible antioxidants fight. Some work better at protecting against the sun’s rays. Your best bites are reddish-orange foods that are high in lycopene, such as tomatoes, watermelon, pink grapefruit, apricots, and papayas, and foods and beverages that are rich in flavonoids, such as green tea and dark chocolate. You’ll need at least 10 weeks of daily ingestion to optimize the benefits.

2. Seek Shades

Ultra stylish oversize sunglasses are more than just a fashion statement. They also shield the paper-thin skin around your eyes from dangerous UV damage (5 to 10 percent of all skin cancers appear on the eyelids) as well as the formation of fine lines and crow’s-feet. More important, sun exposure can affect more

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Walk of Shame –I mean Fame

6May10

Perhaps Julia Louis-Dreyfus is not the easiest name to spell off the top of your head, but I’m at a complete loss as to how her name was misspelled on the star she received for the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  Apparently, the spelling “Julia Luis Dreyfus” (missing both the ‘o’ from ‘Luis’ and the hyphen between ‘Louis’ and ‘Dreyfus’) was approved by several members of the LA Chamber of Commerce and the errors were not discovered until CNN correspondent David Daniel noticed the mistake. Smack! (*hand to forehead*).

Fortunately, the actress had a great sense of humor about the whole situation saying, ‘the misspelling was so perfectly apt, a great metaphor for show business. Right when you think you’ve made it, you get knocked down. It’s an ideal metaphor for how this business works’.

Don’t worry, the star will be fixed, but seriously, how does that even happen? I would have thought only in a Seinfeld episode.

Water Crisis in Boston Ends

4May10

Well I picked a great time to visit Boston.  Within a few days of my arrival a pike broke in Weston, MA causing nearly 2 million people in 31 communities in the Boston area (myself included) to lose their supply of clean water. The Mass. Dept. of Public Health issued a warning that tap water was not suitable for drinking, but could be used for bathing, flushing and fire protection.  Mixed with the unreasonably hot, humid weather and all I can say is this trip has been a real pleasure. Fortunately, the water is now safe according to reports, just in time for my flight back to New York.

Growing up in the Boston area, I was so over this song.  However, it’s never felt more appropriate (although I didn’t love that dirty water). Happy Tuesday Everyone!
