Happy Birthday Metropolitan Museum of Art

The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Happy Birthday? Happy Anniversary? In this case it’s one and the same since today, February 20th is the day that the Metropolitan Museum of Art opened it’s doors in Manhattan in 1872. Originally, it resided in a rented space at 681 Fifth Avenue and moved several times before migrating to the east side of Central Park to the home we know today (at 1000 Fifth Avenue). The Metropolitan Museum of Art is now more than 2 million square feet and contains more than 2 million works of art divided into nineteen curatorial departments.

Kicking off Fashion Week With BULLETT Magazine + Jessica White

Posted 02/16/2011 by Lara

Event: BULLETT + Jessica White Co-Host Fashion Week Kick-Off Event
When: February 9th
Venue: BULLETT Loft, NYC

BULLETT Magazine kicked off Fashion Week with an exclusive event, hosted by Jessica White to celebrate the launch of their inaugural edition, Volume 1: The Premiere Issue. Jessica is featured in the issue baring it all (except for a black rose Colin Yeo hat and Louboutin’s); I like her tattoos.

BULLETT is a quarterly unisex fashion and lifestyle magazine that features fashion, art, film, music and travel by way of fashion spreads, designer and celebrity interviews and travel and artist features.

Cindy Crawford graced the cover of the premiere issue, and looks absolutely stunning in her 10-page spread. The fashion photography alone is worth owning a copy, and the styling is phenomenal (I’m still stuck on the Cindy Crawford lay outs). I was also happy to see an interview with Simon Spurr included. He’s one of the male designers I’m covering for fashion Continue Reading…

Kiehl’s Donates $225,000 to The Koons Family Institute

Posted 12/11/2010 by Lara

The check presentation! In this picture: Justine Koons, Jeff Koons, Cheryl Vitali (General Manager, Kiehl's Worldwide), Chris Salgardo (President, Kiehl's USA)

Earlier this week I joined Kiehl’s for their holiday party and benefit, hosted by contemporary artist, Jeff Koons. Back in October (you may remember me posting about this), Kiehl’s and Koons had launched a limited edition Creme de Corps collection with all the net proceeds benefiting The Koons Family Institute, an initiative of the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC). The theme of the collection and party was a Wonderland of Merry. And the evening was just that, complete with a special check presentation by Kiehl’s President, Chris Salgardo to Mr. Koons for the amount of $225,000 for his charity.

Fun, Corky Gifts for Under $10

Posted 11/30/2010 by Lara

Let the holiday gift guides begin! Here are some fun, silly gifts for adults and kids all for under $10. They also make for a great stocking stuffer!1. TO-DO TATTOO ($7)– I found this at the infamous Powell’s bookstore in Portland, Oregon. A temporary tattoo to do list, complete with skin-safe gel pen. Peel it on, then use the pen to write out your to do list. Perfect gag gift (or practical gift in my case) for all your disorganized, flaky or plain forgetful friends. Each pack comes with 12 ‘to do…’ tattoos, perfectly sized to fit in the palm of your hand, although I generally stick them on my arm. For more information visit worldwidefred.com

2. Risk It/Play it Safe Coin ($4)– It’s genius! A silver, rustic looking coin that on one side has ‘RISK IT’ imprinted on it and on the other ‘PLAY IT SAFE’. For all those moments in question, now you can just flip a coin and leave it to fate. This is somewhat an iconic gift I give to the very special men in my life –who may or may not happen to make reckless or irresponsible decisions, and need a little voice of reason.  I like to Continue Reading…

Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted 11/25/2010 by Lara

I would say for a vegetarian, turkey has served me well; this turkey cartoon to be exact. Last year I posted this funny image on my blog with the title ‘Happy Thanksgiving’.  What’s even more humorous than the actual comic, is that it was a hit!  Google hit that is…  Yesterday alone, that post at almost a year old, had 959 people click on it and yet not a single comment was left. Who are you, you turkey searching individuals, you? And what do you do with your funny turkey pictures? Post them on your blog for Thanksgiving like me? Thank you for the laughs!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! I’M THANKFUL FOR YOU!

Beyonce for Temptu: Dereon Temporary Tattoos

Posted 11/23/2010 by Lara

Beyonce under her mother, Tina Knowles’ fashion label, House of Dereon has teamed up with airbrush makeup company Temptu to create a new limited edition line of temporary tattoos.

“The look is 1960s pin-up meets futuristic biker chic”- Beyoncé for Deréon

Released earlier this month, there are three collectible variations of the tattoo kit ($16), each consisting of 8 Temporary Tattoo Transfer sheets (2 each of 4 designs) and 10 Tattoo application pads; cleverly packaged in what looks like a CD cover. Temptu has also released a DELUXE EDITION ($34), which is composed of all three kits and a few added bonuses.

Check out Beyonce’s promo video:

Her eye makeup in this clip is fabulous, although I’m not sure how I feel about the platinum blond hair. The tattoos in the video are the designs in the collection, however Continue Reading…
