Lands’ End Canvas Rocks Their Spring/Summer 2012 Collection With The Wandas
Posted 11/15/2011 by Lara
Lands’ End Canvas knows how to throw and party and launch a collection in style! Last week they premiered and celebrated their Spring/Summer 2012 collection with a special performance by The Wandas. Hosted at the Highline Stages, they previewed the whole collection and transformed the space into a canvas (how clever!) and allowed guests to paint on the designated wall, while The Wandas took to the stage in the background.

Hanging out with my Refinery29 peeps!

Hair Straightener, extraordinaire brand, ghd is partnering with Kate Perry again this season for their new Scarlet Collection Limited Edition. The Art-Deco inspired collection was photographed by the infamous, David La Chapelle (he also shot the previous Perry/ghd campaign), in a twisted, vampy fairytale scene, of which Perry portrays Continue Reading…

Patrick McMullan & David Foox Celebrate Bunnies
Posted 07/01/2011 by Lara
In celebration of the Year of the Rabbit, Patrick McMullan and David Foox debut their collection with a rocking opening reception at the Sanctuary Hotel. Much fun was to be had; so Laura, Antonio and I got a leetle silly. Which is always a good thing in this crowd. And the night only got crazier from there…
Antonio is friends with Patrick so I hopped on the bunny train and went to dinner with iconic photographer –which was awesome since I got his Kiss Kiss book in the gift bag and wanted an intimate moment to ask him to sign it! Strangely the evening ended with us in front of the Transformers 3 premiere watching Patrick shoot the red carpet. It’s always the unsuspecting NYC nights, where I think I’m going to an art show for an hour and will be in bed by 10pm that turn into the late night most fun evenings.

Andy Warhol Hanging out in Union Square
Posted 06/23/2011 by Lara
Have you seen Andy Warhol in Union Square? Sporting an iconic Bloomingdale’s ‘medium brown bag’, he’s hanging out on 17th Street on the Northwest corner of Union Square (NYC).
I recently started a consulting gig in the area and spend my mornings walking by him. It’s fun seeing people see the statue for the first time and stop to admire him and take pictures. Regretfully, the chrome-plated sculpture, standing 10-foot tall, is not a permanent fixture –although I think it should be!!!! Funded by the Public Art Fund, it will be on display through October 2nd. I’m going to miss him when he’s gone.
Fun fact: Andy’s practically home! The Andy Monument stands within eye-shot of two of the buildings that formerly housed his famous Factory –33 Union Square West and 860 Broadway.
Go visit him!

Inside the Chihuly Exhibit
Posted 06/12/2011 by Lara
This past weekend I was in Boston and headed to the Chihuly ‘Through the Looking Glass’ exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA). If you’re visiting the area (or are local), it’s a must see! Especially if you’re a fan of blown glass. Based in Seattle with his team of glassblowers, Dale Chihuly revolutionized the art.
The exhibit features several rooms of a variety of installations in different colors and styles. There was a glass blown ceiling in one of them which blew my mind! The way the colors reflected and the level of craftsmanship… so beautiful!
Then there we’re also these purple glass beams parked in bark, which I wanted to take home with me. And a variety of glass chandeliers that were simply stunning. Then there were a few rooms which were filled with crazy shapes and colored glass that kind of remind me to of those balloon animals clowns make at kids birthday parties. But I have to say out of all this amazingness, my favorite was this series he did based on the shapes of weaving baskets.
And you know what else I love? That the MFA lets you take pictures! Hopefully you get to make the exhibit, but if not enjoy the pictures. Continue Reading…

James Vincent Presents The Makeup Show 2011 in NYC
Posted 05/15/2011 by Lara
If you’re in the beauty world or aspire to be a makeup artist you by now you should know about The Makeup Show. And if you don’t, visit their website right now! Now in their 6th year, The Makeup Show is a two-day exhibition that takes place in NY, LA, Chicago and Europe, and exposes guests to some of the top artists, brands, workshops, seminars and is the best go-to resource for how to get started in this industry. It’s also one of the only times top brands, including NARS Cosmetics, MAKE UP FOR EVER, YSL, Stila… will offer their products at a discount (it’s a good time to stock up).
Last night, James Vincent, the Director of Education and Artist Relations for The Makeup Show hosted a blogger preview party, and gave us bloggers some fun goodies to try. He also introduced The Makeup Show and it’s importance to makeup artists everywhere (watch the video above). The only item in the gift bag I’ve tried thus far is MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Aqua Liner, which I’m currently having a love affair with. I received a few samples from them last week and all I can say is if you’re a liquid liner fan this is a must-try! It’s so easy to use and waterproof. This liner got me through all the beaches and pools in Acapulco. And now that I’m back in NY, and it’s raining buckets, but my eyeliner is staying put!
Following the blogger preview party, The Makeup Show hosted a makeup art exhibition, “New York Groove, A Gallery of Makeup Art”. MAKE UP FOR EVER’s Creative & Artistic Director Dany Sanz took the cake in the performance and live art she developed. Sanz created three different looks (in human marionette form); a Ballerina, a Rockette and a Chorus Line dancer. Now much more NY can you get? Check out the performance!
The Make Up Show NYC – May 15 – May 16th at the Metropolitan Pavilion – 125 West 18th Street

Jo Malone Celebrates The Royal Wedding
Posted 04/29/2011 by Lara
Who’s got Royal Fever? Just about everyone! My inbox has been flooded with press releases all about Kate –her hats, what dress she should wear, what her hairstyle should be… everything down to if I want do a giveaway on the reproduction of her see-through dress she wore that now available for sale (I dunno, do I?).
My favorite email though came from Jo Malone, who is celebrating the royal union with a specially designed window in their London store on Sloane St. I like that it honors both Kate and Will.
Don’t forget you can live stream the wedding at http://www.youtube.com/theroyalchannel

Sleep No More
Posted 04/28/2011 by Lara
A few weeks ago while I was at Katie Holmes’ John Frieda event, I ran into a group of friends I hadn’t seen in a while. Amidst our departure one of them mumbled something about how we should go to this play, Sleep No More, where you wear a mask and it’s totally ‘Eye’s Wide Shut’ like. I didn’t really know what that meant at the time –was I going to watch a play and be seduced while wearing a mask? Especially since it was at a hotel I had never heard of –the McKittrick. I was intrigued.
The emails circulated, tickets we’re bought and next thing I know I’m entering a set of large unmarked black doors and being asked to check everything. When in Rome… I gave them my purse, coat, cell phone –it felt kind of liberating. I then walked to the 2nd floor bar and joined my friends. And that’s where the journey began. You walk through this maze of darkness feeling your way through and come out in something set out of the 1940s. Live entertainment with tables and a bar. The hosts all dress to a tee as if we’re all at a masquerade ball –only at this point we weren’t required to wear masks. The ticket alone was worth hanging out at the bar all night.
You’re given a card as your ticket (I had a jack), which designates your group. And call different cards up to enter the hotel. Once yours is called you follow the seductress into a small room where Continue Reading…
